Successful Prevention of Acne Scars
Sep 8th, 2009 by Arthur Clayton

Nothing can be more discouraging than successfully fighting off an existing case of acne to expose underlying acne scars. Most people would be hard-pressed to seek additional treatments, especially those that drained their bank accounts and free time in curing their acne. Acne scarring is rarely visible when inflamed acne consumes much of the skin. It is not until the acne is brought under control, and thus the inflammation brought down that the scars become fully visible. Treating scars can be just as expensive and demanding of times as treating acne.

Your friends weren’t necessarily correct when encouraging you to picking at your pimples. Squeezing pimples is often one of the primary causes of acne scarring. Most of us use our long nails to erupt that annoying whitehead without any concern for what consequence may await us. The most important rule in avoiding scaring is to resist the urge to pop pimples. The only thing you accomplish by squeezing that pesky whitehead is to further push the bacteria into the pore and into surrounding ones. This somewhat complicates your initial goal of getting rid of the pimple. More often than not, the pimples that you squeeze resurface in an hour so. This should be sufficient evidence to prove that you accomplish nothing through your pimple picking activities.

That time your friends encouraged you to pop a pimple was more of a disservice than anything. Squeezing pimples is one of the primary causes of acne scars. Who doesn’t get some gratification from picking at that newly erupted whitehead? While you may get some short term pleasure from popping your pimples, serious consequences can proceed the action. The first rule in preventing scarring is to avoid popping pimples. The only thing you can achieve from doing this is allowing the acne bacteria to penetrate deeper into the skin. The eruption can even help spread the bacteria to pores that are close by. You really accomplish nothing productive by tampering with pimples. Even if you were able to contain the bacteria, the existing pimple is surge to resurge within the hour. The bottom-line is that you are achieving little by messing with your pimples.

Not all pimples can create equal amounts of scarring. Some give way more quickly, granting your skin some relief from your poor choice of action. Whiteheads or blackheads, for instance, are lesions that tend to respond rapidly to squeezing, often bursting. Lesions the rest under the skin, however, do not burst, causing people to continue squeezing at them. These prolonged periods of squeezing can leave behind immense scarring. These types of pimples are especially best left alone. They will eventually subside on their own without any “help” from you. Continue with your regular acne treatment without concentrating on them too much.

Brace yourself for some financial as well as physical pain. With many of these treatments, you will have to remain out of the sunlight for a few days and will have to tolerate some skin peeling. Anyone who has undergone some form of scar treatment will agree that prevention would have been much more worth it.

In order to stay free of acne scars, you have to resist the temptation to pick at pimples. One pimple can only bother you for so long, scarring can plague you for a lifetime. The choice is yours.
